Firefighters are still working to extinguish hotspots after a massive fire broke out inside a Newport hotel Monday evening. Crews responded to the Wayfinder Hotel on Admiral Kalbfus Road shortly after 8 p.m. as heavy flames and smoke could be seen for miles pouring from the roof and windows. Departments from six different communities were called in as mutual aid to help put out the flames at the four-story hotel, which is across the street from the old Newport Grand Casino.

The1930 American LaFrance Tiller Truck is now back home. The Middletown Fire Department used the truck from 1930 to about 1963 and recently got a call from someone in Binghamton, New York – the old truck was sitting on a lot there. Jim Loewenthal, a retired Middletown firefighter, enlisted his friends and fellow former firefighters and had the 75-foot fire truck brought back to Middletown.

The IAFF has been collaborating with the U.S. Navy on a program to improve the fitness, health and wellness of Navy fire fighters by encouraging them to become more active. The Kissimmee Fire Department will begin integrating telemedicine and patient navigation into the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system with the Tele911 program beginning Monday, June 6. The Oklahoma governor has signed legislation into law giving firefighters the authority to transport patients to the hospital in emergency situations. Senate Bill 1515, written by Sen. Darrell Weaver and Rep. Mike Osburn, was filed in response to a situation where an Oklahoma City firefighter was disciplined for his decision to drive a 3-year-old burn victim to the hospital in his fire truck after waiting 20 minutes for an ambulance to arrive.

Ford Motor Co. has asked the owners of 350,000 vehicles to take them into dealerships to be repaired under a three-pronged recall announcement. About 39,000 of those vehicles should be parked outdoors because their engines could catch fire, Ford said. A group of 12 balloon artists from around the United States gathered in Omro to create a life-sized fire truck out of balloons. When EMS personnel are called out, they generally don't know much about the patient they're going to be treating. That is especially true for the city's homeless population. A crew of over 150 responded to a wind-driven fire at a pallet yard late Tuesday night in Phoenix. Two local firefighter's unions made clear Tuesday that they do not support the Firefighter Safety Act because it “seems poised to unreasonably restrict” them from performing their duties. The Abbeville County Fire Department announced the passing of Mr. Hobart “Hobie” Erickson, the oldest active firefighter in the state of South Carolina. He was 95 years old. Erickson served as a first responder for over 65 years. His career started in 1965 in New Jersey. He later moved down south and joined the Donalds Fire Department more than 35 years ago where he once served as chief of the station.
